Welcome to the world of Geography!“
Geography is a dynamic subject that is firmly grounded in the real world and focuses on the interactions between individuals, societies and physical processes in both time and space” ~
IBDP Geography Guide, 2019.
To many students, Geography is a subject that resonates with memory work, that it is ‘content-heavy’ and filled with many case studies. Geography is also a new subject to many secondary school students. The new and unfamiliar terms, theories and concepts, in which many students are unfamiliar with, and therefore, fail to perform well in tests and exams. The amount of time invested in studying the subject does not justify the results gained.
In actual fact, Geography is more than just content. Geography opens the world for us to see the complex relationships between people, nature and space. Being able to understand these relationships will allow students to appreciate the nature of Geography. The learning of Geography makes sense as it intrigues learners the sense of exploring our world.
